How To Choose The Correct Knee Brace

Choosing the Correct Knee Brace

Do you need help on selecting the correct size for your knee brace? Check out this short video tutorial. Below, you can find further instructions and more helpful information.

Important Note: Not all of our knee braces follow the same measuring regimen for sizing. Make sure you look at the individual sizing chart for the specific brace you are ordering to see where measurements should be taken. If you can't find your sizing chart watch our video.

How to Properly Measure Your Knee:

  1. To get the most accurate measurement, have someone help you if you can. Make sure you are standing up with your leg straight. If you are doing the measurement yourself or are unable to stand, sit on the edge of a chair with your leg straight out in front of you with your heel on the floor.

if you have to measure yourself, keep your knee straight
  2. Use a soft measuring tape to measure 6 inches up from the middle of your kneecap. This point is identified as point A.
  3. Measure all the way around your leg at point A.
  4. Use the measuring tape to measure 6 inches down from the middle of your kneecap. This point is identified as point B.
  5. Measure all the way around your calf at point B.
  6. Find the correct size chart of the specific product you want to order.

Important Information to Remember:

  • Size charts are not universal. Make sure you are looking at the size chart for the specific brace you want to order.
  • For products like a knee sleeve or brace, there needs to be compression so the support doesn't slide down. Take this into account when choosing a size - think smaller, not bigger.
  • Most knee braces can be worn on either knee unless there is a left/right option to choose from on the product page.
  • Be mindful of how the brace is applied to your knee. Some braces require you to slide it up over your foot and calf while others might open fully to be secured around your knee.

when measuring, stand up with your leg straight and use a soft tape measure

Tips for Measuring:

  • Make sure you are standing up when measuring. If you are unable to stand, sit on the edge of a chair with your leg extended with your heel on the floor.
  • Don't have a soft measuring tape? Use a string, phone charger, etc. to measure the around your leg. The object used should just touch your skin all the way around your leg. Then use a measuring device to measure the length of the substitute item you used to measure the circumference.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help when measuring. People who would be willing to help might include family, friends, neighbors, doctors, or pharmacists.
